A morning of blog stalking...

What a morning, I have been bouncing around blog world and have seen and read some amazing stuff. Now I have decided that when I get home and back into sewing I will need to refine my techniques, become more of a perfectionist. Care. I am loving the Kreativ Blogger Awards, it is such a great opportunity to check out other amazing bloggers fav blogs. Oh I've had such fun and it has really taken my thoughts off my exploding head and mountains of mucus...

Brrrrrr... Wikipedia taught me everything I know.

I always thought that the colder it was the more it snowed - simple I know - but, yup, I was wrong. Apparently there is an optimal temperature for snow to form and to fall, and there are lots of different snow crystals that form under different temperatures. Amazing.

But it has been crazy snow-less weather here in Fernie, currently it is hovering around -20 and, holy moley -20 is very fresh. The problem is that we need a mix of high and low pressure systems that we're not getting, which makes me sad, but at the same time no snow hill in Canada is having snow, which makes me happy-er.

So I'm planning a trip to Mexico and Cuba at the end of the season and reading about Palm tree lined white sandy beaches is making me warm and fuzzy. (I do realise they will be full of people selling me stuff, stealing my stuff and strutting their stuff, but I would like to dream for uno momento, por favor.) I am gonna tell you that I will try and learn Spanish for the trip, but I'm not gonna lie to you, I don't find language - or promises - easy at all.

A reminder list.

Ok, so the grand plan isn't working out real great I have knitted 1 beanie for me and 1 for the Salvo's, I just finished F's and now I'm rushing to finish N's plus in between I knitted one for KCF.

So score so far: Me: 1 Friends: 2 (almost 3) and Salvo's: 1

This means that I have 3 to catch up on for the Salvo's... hmm... maybe I can donate some food instead if I get too far behind. That's not a bad idea, it is still in keeping with my original idea just not putting as much pressure on myself. So clearly I need to sort out some rules here, to make it easy.

Rule 1: One For You, One For Me. But, if not possible...
Rule 2 (aka Plan B) : Tin Food and the good intention of getting back on track.

Easy!

A few golden little time waster websites

Sometimes when I'm sitting here I find I have a little too much time on my hands. Not very often, but when I do I check out all the blogs and sites I can and I wanted to share with you some beautiful websites that make "killing time" a hobby.


* Anthropolgie which has the most beautiful clothes and everything and their catalogues are sooooo lovely to look at and such classic design.




* Etsy, seriously one day at work I sat on Etsy for hours just looking at all the lovely handmade stuff. Oh etsy. I got this wicked necklace for my sis from chainchainchained.

* Ployvore, which I found via Sarah's delightful blog In A Nutshell. Go Sarah! (My first attempt at the virtual wardrobe!) The boots are wicked in this outfit, I'm searching for a pair of boots that I just adore.



Also Meylda, check out her blog Country Girl Couture, is wicked and I love her posts called "The look for less"... I may have to borrow the format when I get home and start sewing again!

Happy January One xx

A new year, a cold, a project and a new love. I'll work backwards: my new love and one that I think a lot of others would share and just not realise it yet, is pickles. I love the ol' pickled cucumber, it makes me extra happy when you have to fish for the last ones in the bottom of the jar. It sounds silly now I write it down, but the humble pickle makes me smile and I think it has everything to do with my Hungarian roots. So I've been looking and here's a recipe I've found which I'm going to try out:

Pickled cucumbers
Makes 3-litre (12 cup) jar

Ingredients
750g small Lebanese cucumbers
2/3 cup fresh dill leaves
2 tsp black peppercorns
750ml (3 cups) water
125ml (1/2 cup) white wine vinegar
1 1/2 tbs coarse salt

Method
Wash the cucumbers and dry well. Thinly slice and layer in a clean, dry 3 litre (12 cup) jar alternately with the dill and peppercorns.
Combine the water, vinegar and salt in a medium saucepan. Bring to the boil over medium-high heat, then carefully pour the hot liquid over the cucumbers in the jar. Seal the jar immediately. Set aside for at least 1 week to pickle before serving. Store the jar at room temperature until opened.

Notes & tips
prep: 10 mins (+ 1 week pickling time)
Keep for up to 6 months unopened. Once opened, keep in the fridge for up to 8 weeks.

Yay!

My new project is to knit on circular needles. I'm off to buy them today because it must be better than having to sew a seam into beanies. I have completed my Salvo's beanie and now I'm on to knitting one for F. It's going to be green and floppy. I hope circular needles aren't frustratingly hard. Oh and I have a cold and so I'm a little homesick and a little snotty. What I wouldn't give for an afternoon walking my dog with my sis and my mum on the beach. But, mountains of snow and work will have to do for now.

Pinch and a punch for the first day of the month!
